Mesa has no shortage of landscape companies, and most of them will tell you they’re the best one. Instead of adding to that pile, here’s the checklist we’d give a family member shopping for landscaping in Mesa, including the checks that would rule plenty of companies out.
1. Look up the ROC license yourself
Arizona requires a Registrar of Contractors license for landscape work beyond basic maintenance. Don’t take a company’s word for it: search their license number on the AZ ROC contractor search and confirm it’s active, bonded, and in the right classification. Ours is ROC #341642, and any legitimate contractor will hand theirs over without hesitation.
2. Ask what happens when something fails
Plants die and fittings leak, even on good installs. What separates companies is what happens next. Ask whether workmanship is covered in writing and for how long. We back installations with a one-year workmanship warranty, and we’d be wary of anyone offering nothing.
3. Make them show you Mesa work, not stock photos
Mesa yards have quirks: flood-irrigated lots in the older neighborhoods, HOA review in the newer East Mesa communities, caliche a few inches under most of it. A company that works here should be able to show completed projects nearby and explain how they handled those conditions, not just show a pretty portfolio from somewhere else.
4. Expect a written, itemized quote
A number over the phone isn’t a quote. You want scope, materials, and price on paper after someone has walked the actual lot. It protects you, and honestly it protects the contractor too.
5. Listen for water talk
In the Valley, most household water use happens outdoors. A company that never mentions irrigation zoning, drip conversion, or plant water needs during a design conversation is designing for install day, not for your water bill in August.
